Click on the image for a bigger pictureProviding welcome pairs of extra hands during the second world war, the new nursing division of the Castor and Ailsworth St John Ambulance group. Girls could join from age 11. The group started at the beginning of the war attending functions to provide nursing care if there was an accident or someone fell ill. They also helped in the children's ward at the memorial hospital.
