Santa in village
I saw it with my own eyes - Santa on his sleigh in Castor. I was not the only witness to this event but for all those who do not believe, I photographed it. The pictures are the proof. Be patient, the photographs will take some time to download.
Tuesday 14th December 1999
It was a cold, dark night. The previous night there had been snow. I heard a noise and looked out of the window. There it was, a sight I never expected to see, Santa on his sleigh and the sleigh laden with presents.I quickly grabbed my camera. A chance like this does not come often. I realised that the pictures would not be of the best quality because of the darkness, but I wanted this proof.
I think Santa was trying to slip through the village quietly, probably moving the presents to somewhere ready for his busiest night of the year.
Others had seen him, and to make him feel welcome someone was playing carols very loudly. This was the sound I heard, the sound that brought people from their houses.
When he realised he had been seen Santa paused.
Some people waved and tried to speak to him. He waved back. He was clearly in a hurry, but was too polite to rush off straight away.
He smiled and waved, even spoke to some of the small crowd that assembled. Then he was on his way, back to work, preparing for Christmas Eve.
The people of Castor and Ailsworth wish you well Santa, and for all the kindness and generosity you have shown over the years we would just like to say - thank you.
And to all the readers of this true story - we wish you a Merry Christmas.
