Photographic Album Captures Village Life
As one of their many Millennium activities, Castor and Ailsworth produced a "Historic Photographic Album". Eleven amateur photographers from the villages captured village life on film.
The aim was to photograph every family in the village. With approximately 600 households this was a mammoth task. Village business, societies and even Peterborough United Football Club, who train in the village, were photographed during the year.

We already have extensive albums of old photographs dating back to the 1800s and everyone loves seeing these. It is important that our generation leaves photographs for future village residents to enjoy.
Each family was asked for a small donation to cover the cost of film and processing and had the option to buy a copy of the selected photograph. Each photograph in the completed album has a brief caption encapsulating the family's village history and any other relevant information.
Other village events to commemorate the Millennium included; Old Castor & Ailsworth Calendar (£2.50 from all village shops and pubs), bulb planting, Historic Pageant, a Street Party and a Medieval Barn Dance.
