Romans Times

In Roman times Castor adjoined the important settlement and army camp Durobrivae, strategically aligned on both sides of the Nene and the important Roman Road of Ermine Street (A1).See more of Castor in Roman Times

Anglo-Saxon Times

During the Anglo-Saxon (550 - 1087) the nearby city of Peterborough was then called Medeshamstede, the greatest monastry of this region.

What's in a name?

The Electoral Rolls of 1897, 1935 and 1977 make fascinating reading. Three of the oldest families are the Sharpes, Wyldbores and the Gibbons with origins probably traceable from Medieval times. Here is how they figured in the respective Jubilee Rolls
