The Gibbons Family goes back centuries in Castor, and I
was delighted
to find a previously unknown photo of my father, Harry Gibbons, along
with his future bride to be, Millie Oliver in the 1927 Primary School
picture. Harry was very touched when I showed him this - he is still
alive and very well living in Torquay, Devon. He still keeps in touch
with his 'best friend', Harry Coulson, who lives in the village.
My Grandfather, Tom, along with his (many) brothers and other members
of the family, ran the traction engine business from the yard opposite
the Fitzwilliam Arms.

Hello Castor,
My name is Malcolm Clifford Longfoot son of Clifford
Longfoot of Yarwell. Born 1943 in Gladstone Street Peterborough. When I
left Deacons Grammar School in 1959 I joined the Royal Navy and was
washed up and swallowed the anchor in Liverpool in 1968 where I have
lived since. Lovely web site bringing back some good memories. Do any
of you Longfoot's still living in the area know if anyone in the family
has attempted a family tree?
Best Wishes to All
Malcolm called Cliff.

Hello Castor. I used to live there ages ago-until about
1995? I went
to Primary school there. i wonder if anyone that went there remembers
me? Well since then I went to kings school in Peterborough when i
lived at home in Crowland, then went to uni in chelmsford studying
Environmental planning, and now I am working in Cambridge as a
Transport planner! Id like to know what fellow friends r up to? I
know about Gemma Towning. I hear people are becoming teachers-Clare
Blanchford and Hannah gibson. What about Trevor Hornsby and andrew
gardner? Ben Lee? Sarah Bailey? Rowen? Charlotte Drake?

Hi Castor -&- Ailsworth!
We're the Yanks living in Maffit's Barn, the last two-storey home at the
north end of Maffit Road.
Any information on the history/original use of structure would be
appreciated!
And, apologies to our neighbours for the occasional baseballs and

Lovely to find my grandfather, Sam Catmull, in the 39/45

photo. Does anyone remember him? He was the village blacksmith. Brought
back a lot of happy memories of day trips to the village in the 50's as
a little boy. Very much remember us catching an Eastern Counties 310 or
311 early on Saturday afternoons to go and watch The Posh in the
Midland League!!

Great site. Nice to see some of the history of a village
on my
doorstep. Of course there is another motive. I believe my grandmother,
Elsie Rushby worked at the Fitzwilliam Arms at some time (about
1912ish), grandfather, William Wadsley born Ailsworth 1884, his mother,
Charlotte Wadsley married John Beeby in St Khyneburgha 1887.
Anyone know of the descendants of the family names Wadsley, Beeby,
Hill, Graham. Love to hear from anyone (except Ronnie Baker!!!!)
and the christian name "Foundy"

she climbed right to the top of our magnificent church tower, which I
think was quiet an acheivement and not easy for someone of 72. So I am
wondering if anyone can beat that.
I have also read Janet's message and Ron says "are you sure about the

I was born in the village in 1955. I still have a cousin
living there
Colin. We come from two of the old families in the history of Castor
and Ailsworth. My grandmother was Nellie Sharpe and My grandfather was
Harry Longfoot. I went to Castor school till I was 7 and then we moved
away. Does anyone remember me? I lived in the wooden bungalow that used
to stand opposite the school gate at 4 stocks hill. My cousins Julian
and Marion Uff lived next door at number 2. My teachers were Mrs
Berridge and Mrs Sismey? I think. Mr POP berridge was headmaster then.
My father Norman Longfoot worked for the local newspaper and my mum
Ethel had a part time job at the shop in the village - Smith's.My great
aunt was a sunday school teacher at the old congregational chappel
which is now an antiques centre!
Anyone who can remember any of this please contact me.
Excellent site. I have come home!

Hello all and G'day from Australia. My parents lived in
Castor before
coming to Melbourne Australia. YORK COTTAGE was our family home. It
still has our name on the front door. I carry my Dads and family name -
Frank York. My mother was Dorothy Kathleen Phillips. My Dad spent a bit
of time bending the elbow at the Fitswilliam Arms. He was in the
British Army and served domestically before going to Eqypt and the
Middle East - being away from 1940 to 1946. Mum and Dad emigrated to
Australia in 1954. I and my family were lucky enough to visit Castor
last September for the first time. I wanted to see where my parents
grew up and see what they had left behind. I felt like I had come home.
I would love to hear from anyone who may know of my family in Castor.
My Mother passed away 5 years ago. My Father passed away a few weeks
ago. My Grand Dad is buried in St Kyneburgha's. I would also like to
hear from anyone who knows the current owners of YORK COTTAGE. I hope
to come back this year to

I'm at Nene University College Northampton and have found looking at the
site very interesting, and much of it's content useful.
I chose Castor for my assignment as I come from Peterborough and so have
another point of interest in the village as it is close to my home town.
Thank you to whoever put this together and I hope that your information
