Golden Jubilee Celebrations

The celebrations for the Golden Jubilee opened on Friday, June 1 2002 with the Jubilee Prom on the school field. The weather was perfect and the orchestra magnificient. The families and friends of Castor and Ailsworth villages were dressed in suitably formal and not so formal style (notably John Elson's hat and Justin's union jack shorts). Food and drink was consumed with refined exuberance. The evening was a total success and the organisers - Alison Brown, John Elson, Bev Rigby and Beverley Paige earned our well deserved thanks. Thanks too to David Noble for organising the orchestra.

The Street Parade and Party Monday 3rd June.

The street parade (organised by Bill Sansom) gathered at the Ailsworth Recreation Ground and was led by our own Queen (aka Janet Smith) with mounted escourt.
The colourful and very noisy spectacle moved slowly through the villages.

The parade was followed by the street party with tables of food from the school field to the Fitzwilliams Arm.

These photographs were emailed to me by Sue Sanson. I look forward to receiving more - and tales of the happenings (lend me the hard copy photographs and I can scan them in).
